OCS Spedition ensures the transport of the Chinese roof tiles for Europe's most modern panda enclosure
The time has come soon: on June 24th, the two panda bears Meng Meng and Jiao Qing land by plane in Berlin and then move into the Berlin Zoo. If the saying “Tell me what your name is and I’ll tell you who you are…” is true, the choice of panda for the Berlin Zoo is a real stroke of luck. Meng Meng means “little dream” and Jiao Qing means “sweetheart”. After a quarantine period, the two button-eyed bears will be introduced to the public in July.
for Chancellor to open the modern panda enclosure together with Chinese President Xi Jingping In addition to a visitor pavilion, the almost 5,500 square meter facility will have a medical station, retreat rooms and an incubation and breeding room.
The zoo set a very tight schedule for the construction of the natural landscape made of bamboo and waterways. The most modern panda habitat in Europe was built in a construction phase of just 14 months. The Chinese authorities have set very strict accommodation rules for keeping pandas abroad. That's why the zoo director Andreas Knieriem and his team traveled to China several times to find out more about the keeping and breeding requirements.
There are just under 2,000 pandas left worldwide, of which around 50 live outside the People's Republic. During a state visit in October 2015, the Chinese government announced that it was lending Germany a pair of pandas for breeding purposes .
So that visitors can observe the two black and white animals in an appropriate ambience as they eat or sleep in the natural landscape of bamboo and watercourses, the visitor pavilion will be built entirely in Chinese style . The roof is covered with original Chinese roof tiles, which were lovingly handcrafted to a high quality. After a firing process above 900 degrees, they were covered with a wafer-thin, glass-like glaze that makes the porous clay body waterproof. OCS Spedition GmbH was able to take care of the timely transport and customs clearance of the high-quality roof tiles, which were packed in wooden boxes.
We are pleased to be able to make a small contribution to the new home's very comfortable feel by transporting the Chinese roof tiles.
