International Women's Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is also known as Women's Day, International Women's Day, International Women's Day or Women's Day. The focus is on the role of women in society. On International Women's Day, the focus should be on specific problems and topics that are globally important.

International Women's Day arose from an initiative of socialist organizations. The Socialist Party of America formed a National Women's Committee in 1908, which created women's right to vote This took place on February 28, 1909 and was immediately a great success.

In Germany, the socialist Clara Zetkin took up the idea and fought together with Käte Duncker for equal rights and the right to vote for women. first Women's Day in Europe followed in Denmark, Austria-Hungary, Switzerland and Germany.

In socialist circles, Women's Day had become even more important. Because of their strike on March 8, 1917, workers' wives, soldiers' wives and farmers' wives in Saint Petersburg triggered the Russian February Revolution.

Based on these events, March 8 was set as the fixed date for Women's Day at the 2nd International Conference of Communist Women in Moscow in 1921.

Even if International Women's Day is of marginal importance in Germany today, it is even more celebrated in Eastern European countries as a “ women's day of honor ” and a public holiday, just like Mother's Day in this country. You have to congratulate adult women, whether in the family, among friends or at work, on Women's Day and give them a small gift.

Especially in Russia , it is an important national holiday that is spent at home with family or friends around a richly laid table. Women are used to being spoiled with a small present by their husbands, friends, business partners and work colleagues.

The famous actress Audrey Hepburn said it best: “ Today’s women don’t wait for a miracle, they stage their own miracles .” International Women's Day celebrates the great attributes and strengths of women and, of course, the political and social achievements that women have achieved over the last century.
