How can you really stand out from the competition as a reliable logistics service provider today? Dennis Braun asked this question at the beginning of the year when it was about marketing planning for 2020. Among other things, he came up with the idea of combining his passion for cycling with his second passion, sales.
The idea that emerged was to simply visit customers in the Bremen area by bike instead of by car and thus draw attention to the OCS Spedition service. However, this idea is not as strange as it may sound at first glance - because there is much more to it than simply visiting a customer and saying hello.
Advantage: Freight forwarding company without its own fleet
OCS Spedition GmbH does not have its own fleet. Dennis Braun sees this as a great advantage for the customer. "The possibility of using a variety of certified fuels and their vehicles always enables us to find the best solution for our customer," he says. Many fuid companies focus on the occupancy of their vehicles, whereby the journey to the next loading location can often play a rather subordinate role in tour planning. So you would also accept journeys of 200 km or more to load the next goods. It should be clear that this procedure cannot really be classified as environmentally friendly. "As a shipping company without our own fleet, we use vehicles that are near our customer. So we can not only transport the goods from A to B quickly, but also in an environmentally friendly manner," continues Dennis Braun , who mainly takes care of sales, marketing and customer satisfaction at OCS.
Late summer is the ideal companion
However, the situation impossible for us since spring made the project impossible. Contacts have been reduced to a minimum and customer visits also moved to an unimaginable distance. In September, however, the time had finally come: The weather played along when Dennis Braun swung on his bike over a total of three and a half days and covered it at over 300 kilometers. He had planned more than 30 customers on his route to personally visit them. "What can better happen to you than combine business and hobby?" Explains the young entrepreneur. He had not announced the visits to a large scale - the customers were all the more positive, because a freight forwarder in the sporty jersey on a cargobike has never been visited in contrast to the seller with tie and suit.
“Green logistics” is the keyword for a clean transport future
Green logistics include all measures to create environmentally friendly and resource -efficient logistics processes. This pursues two goals from this aspect: the reduction of harmful effects on the environment through environmentally friendly, logistical processes and the reduction of the consumption of non -or only limited renewable resources. With the green logistics, the transport system is thus expanded to include the ecological aspect. "In comparison to the car, I was able to avoid any CO2 emissions on my tour, because our company building has a photovoltaic system with a 41 kWp performance. With their help, the batteries of the e-bike were charged directly from the sun. A car would have caused at least 65 kg CO2 output on this route," Dennis Braun .

In the end, the campaign was so successful that Dennis Braun will plan a similar tour again in spring 2021. "Often we have driven hundreds of kilometers to our customers in the past to visit them personally. Of course, we continue to do so. However, we will now go to customer acquisition again in our own region, because we not only want to talk but also act. Environmental protection is a heart topic, so we attach particular importance to showing this. We can all help to stop climate change!" Is he sure.
