Since joining the EU a little more than 10 years ago, Poland has been one of Germany's most important economic partners within Europe.

Around 27% of Poland's total exports flow to Germany and, conversely, the Polish market offers excellent sales opportunities for German companies.

So it is hardly surprising that goods worth around 55 billion euros were recently exported to Poland every year.

Regardless of the political situation, economic relations are better than ever and there are great opportunities for German companies.

In this article we will look at exactly which ones and how you benefit from them.

What characterizes Poland as a central business location for German companies?

In 2014, Bloomberg even named Poland the best business location in Eastern Europe and Central Asia due to its good infrastructure, attractive labor costs, high productivity and a stable customer base.

Poland has an optimal geographical location, with direct access to both Western and Eastern European countries and is optimally connected by a close-knit transport network: 13 international airports, a modern rail system and motorways enable an uncomplicated exchange of goods.

The Polish population has a high level of education. This is not least because subject-specific training and further education are becoming increasingly popular and universities enjoy an excellent reputation.

This is also reflected in the low unemployment rate, which is currently around 3.7%.

Nevertheless, German companies benefit from favorable conditions. Additional labor costs, wages, taxes and duties are comparatively lower than in Germany.

In addition, no import duty is charged on imported goods as Poland is part of the European internal market.

These are the most popular industries

The sectors with the highest turnover for exports from Germany to Poland are:

  • Machines (2018: €7,888,556,000)
  • Metals and metal products (2018: €6,862,339,000)
  • Chemical products (2018: €6,564,604,000)

Conversely, Germany mainly imports from Poland:

  • Motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts (2018: €8,033,510,000)
  • Machines (2018: €4,332,731,000)
  • Electrical equipment (2018: €4,022,114,000)

But other sectors (such as rubber and plastics, food and feed, furniture, clothing and textiles…) also offer great sales opportunities.

In order to successfully participate in trade in goods with Poland, German companies need experienced partners who will make things as easy as possible for them.
