What I love most about football is when you can cheer for both teams! While we at OCS don't all agree on today's qualifying match between the German national team and Poland, one thing is for sure: we'll be celebrating no matter who wins!
"You don't even know any of the Polish players, except for Lewandowski," someone said earlier when one of us revealed himself to be a fan. In fact, I personally hardly know any of the Polish players. Błaszczykowski might come to mind, but that's about it. But that's clearly due to a lack of interest in the sport. Some football enthusiasts can probably still name Bundesliga players like Piszczek or Peszko. According to Sport1, there are even six Bundesliga players nominated for today's match. But does it really matter how many players someone knows? There are so many different reasons why people watch football. Some are die-hard fans and always keep up with the latest squads. Many watch the games simply out of interest in the athletic performance, and others do it because everyone else is watching football.
Let's put the motives aside for a moment and look at the league table. Poland has been shining with a top performance so far and is therefore in first place, followed by Germany just one point behind. Clearly, it's important for the German team to put in a good performance. The world champions aren't content with second place. This promises an exciting international match. At OCS, our hearts are certainly with both teams. We're eager to see who will emerge victorious today and are looking forward to a thrilling evening of football.
