As every year on March 8th, International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide. A women's day existed even in ancient Rome. On this day, even female slaves were given a few hours off and received gifts. Today, in some countries, this day is even an official holiday dedicated exclusively to the well-being of women.
At the 2nd International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen in 1910, the German women's rights activist Klara Zetkin insisted that March 8th be dedicated to Women's Day and the fight for equality. It has been celebrated annually on March 8th since 1913. Even the UN General Assembly recognized it as International Women's Day in 1977.
While in Germany this day might seem like any other, it's an official holiday in many other countries. In Europe, it's a public holiday in Ukraine, Russia, Serbia, and Belarus. As with many other holidays, in Russia, if March 8th falls on a Sunday, the following weekday is a day off.
Russian women are pampered or receive a token of appreciation from their husbands and children on this day. Business owners invite their female employees to breakfast. Those who don't want to give flowers at least offer their congratulations on International Women's Day or invite their female business partner or colleague for coffee or a meal. In doing so, companies and families recognize the potential of women and show their appreciation for them.
Historically, we at OCS treat our female employees equally. This ensures we are on equal footing at all levels, something our customers have valued for years.
