8 reasons why women are so important in the field

Dispatchers are the crucial link between customers, drivers, and sales. They perform tasks that even the most sophisticated and modern computers would fail to handle. Hopefully, it will be a long time before logistics dispatchers are replaced by robots. Many of our satisfied customers value not only the excellent service our employees provide but also the personal contact – thanks in no small part to our charming female staff. However, according to an exclusive DVZ market survey, less than a fifth of dispatchers in German companies are women – which is why this article explains why women are so important in this supposedly male-dominated field.

Good office atmosphere

According to Zeit Online, Lukas Podolski was important for the  team's "hygiene" at the last World Cup . This can certainly be interpreted in two ways, but we probably all know what was meant. We see it similarly regarding a good office atmosphere. Many probably don't even notice it, because we usually only become aware of something when it's missing. This is also the case when we become acutely aware of the absence of women in the office. We only have a few days a year where we men are among ourselves, and then things can get quite heated. We all notice this, and we immediately know the reason: The women aren't here today! A very clear argument, then, for the importance of women in scheduling for a great working atmosphere! And let's be honest, we wouldn't feel comfortable for long, all alone among men.

Attractiveness to applicants

What would you say as an applicant for a job at a freight forwarding company if you discovered that the only woman in the entire company works in accounting? If you're honest, that might be a reason to look elsewhere, right? But even if that weren't a reason for you to withdraw your application, studies show that women strengthen teamwork and can create competitive advantages.

Thinking better with women

The Süddeutsche Zeitung reportsthat, according to an American study, women have a positive influence on team performance. This is, incidentally, only a secondary finding of the study, which primarily focused on developing solutions for various cognitive tasks. According to the researchers, gender is not the decisive factor, but rather the participants' social empathy. Women are often much better than men at recognizing and responding to the emotions of other team members.

More empathy

This skill is predominantly attributed to women, who are thus better able to respond to emotions. This is also a crucial success factor in the daily work of logistics. Because wherever goods are moved, we are always dealing with people. Everyone has a bad day now and then or makes mistakes. Many people feel uncomfortable at such times and could really use some words of encouragement. Women who utilize this skill can therefore help turn a bad day into a good one, and literally make the sun shine from their eyes!

Heavy traffic – The truck is late

Of course, all logistics companies promise to be punctual. But reality is sometimes different, as traffic jams are occasionally unavoidable. Early warning is therefore a crucial factor for customer satisfaction. And if a delay does occur, it's at least a small consolation to be notified by a friendly female voice.

The driver – stress, driving times, and then there's that annoying customer

Today's long-haul truck driver is under enormous stress compared to the past. Electronic recording of driving times leaves no room for old tricks. He's constantly monitored by modern track and trace systems and still has to be the company's ambassador for the customer. And then there are those customers: no tie-down strap is good enough, no anti-slip mat pleases him, and anyway – why isn't the truck washed when he pulls into the yard? You can probably imagine what goes through a driver's mind in such a situation. How soothing, then, can a friendly chat with a dispatcher be, someone who takes the frustration off his chest?

Christmas party, cabbage tour or barbecue with colleagues – without women, only half the fun

What would a cabbage tour or company party be like without female guests? It might go something like this: The men sit at the tables, drinking amongst themselves and perhaps getting up to some foolish antics. A little competition now and then? Sure, how about some arm wrestling? It wouldn't be long before glasses were broken and the first argument erupted. The presence of women can prevent such situations, although after excessive alcohol consumption, it can never be completely ruled out. In any case, let it be said that there are many reasons to refrain from kissing. You can find 10 good reasons for this here.

Women work more than men

Last but not least, according to the Federal Statistical Office, women work more than men. So, statistically speaking, it makes sense to hire women. And that should dispel any doubts about hiring women in your company. A small consolation for all fathers: according to a report in the Badische Zeitung, more than mothers. "Men take on more work, but they don't hold back professionally," notes Bastian Roet from the German Sociological Association. Despite all the statistics, we should be grateful for our partners, whether male or female. Because while many things can be measured and represented in numbers, the good feeling of having a partner you love by your side is irreplaceable, isn't it?!

By the way: We've noticed that not only is our service above average, but so is the number of women on our team – at almost 40%, it's significantly higher than the German average. This has prompted us to share seven reasons why we believe women are invaluable in dispatching. We hope you enjoyed this post. We look forward to your comments!
